Mark Stubbings, Manager, Retail Advice, Sunsuper and AFA Communities of Practice Co-chair, reveals why having a plan is so important and who, lately, has made him smile.

 1.Why is financial advice important to you?  

‘Fail to plan, plan to fail’.  So important to have a game plan for your financial life with contingencies for No 2 below.

2.Your favourite quote?

Everybody’s got plans….until they get hit (Mike Tyson). A testament to adapting and coping with adversity. Refer to contingencies in 1. Above.

3.One thing you’ve changed in your workplace during COVID-19  

More picking up the phone and talking to people outside of emails and ‘Zoom style’ catch-ups.

4.Your most recent ‘high-five’ moment?

Adversity brings out the best & the worst in people, the current COVID situation being an excellent example. The need to flex, adapt and ‘carry-on’ has highlighted the depths of some people’s character which hasn’t always been so obvious in calmer times.

 5.What can we find you doing most weekends?  

In my free time (see photo attached), giddy-up! Otherwise taming the garden.

 6.Have you seen anything lately that made you smile?   

Donald Trump. A continuing source of amusement, outrage and affront. I am so going to miss him if he doesn’t get re-elected!
