Cara Williams, Financial Advisor, Perrier Ryan Financial Advisors, shares her life-changing experience that was being a part of the 2018 AFA Foundation Kokoda Trek, why she fell in love with advice and where she would like to be in 10 years’ time.
- Why financial advice?
I fell into the world of Financial Advice in 2012, not really knowing what a Financial Adviser was. Very quickly I fell in love with the profession and realised I had found my passion and career! It’s an absolute privilege to build the level of trust and rapport we do and work with clients to achieve their goals. It’s so rewarding being able to educate clients in an informed way to make them feel empowered to make decisions about their situation and their future. - What are you most proud of?I am most proud of the 2018 AFA Foundation Kokoda team – as a team we raised $117,436 being the highest fundraising event in AFA Foundation history. It was so humbled by the significant difference we were able to make for a number of charities, as well as the life-changing Kokoda trek we experienced together.
3. What advice would you give to your younger self?
Study a Financial Planning degree, not Business (Management)! In saying that though, I was lucky to build real ‘on the job’ experience from a young age which has been so valuable to me and my development as an adviser.
4. Your most recent ‘high-five’ moment?
On weekends I’m an Obstacle Course Racer! My most recent ‘high-five’ moment was competing in the OCR Enduro 24 hour World Championships. Aim is to run as many 12km laps in 24 hours as possible, with 30 obstacles per lap and a 20 burpee penalty for any failed obstacles! Other than Kokoda, it’s the hardest thing I’ve done to date.
5. Favourite holiday destination?
Hawaii! It has the perfect mix of relaxation, sightseeing, history and adventure! From sipping on a mai tai at a luau, to getting lost in lava tubes, it’s my ideal getaway.
6. Your big hairy audacious goal for 2019?
I have a few massive goals in my one-five year plan! I recently joined an amazing Financial Advice business and this year is about setting the important foundations to support the goals I want to achieve over the next few years. I have a niche I am very passionate about exploring and am excited to see what I can do in this space.
7. Where will you be in 10 years?
I want to look back and be able to say I have made a difference to those who allowed me the privilege to be part of their lives. I want to have inspired young women in the financial advice profession. And I want to encourage and empower all woman to achieve financial freedom, in a safe and nurturing environment. I also want a podium position at an obstacle course race world championship haha…
