Troy MacMillan, Managing Director of TWD – AFA 2018 Practice of the Year, shares his most recent high-five moment, his studies with a great master and his big, hairy audacious goal for 2019!
1. Why financial advice?
Wealth creation has been a passion of mine from an early age and helping people is just in my DNA, so it all made sense that I would find my ‘sweet spot’ in life by combining the two. To be honest, I still pinch myself sometimes as I can’t believe that I’ve been lucky enough to find a career that I love working in so much.
- What are you most proud of?
That’s a difficult question for me as I’m proud of so many parts of my life, but at the very top is the pride I have in being a Dad to my 3 children. They provide the purpose I need to do what I do.3. Who inspires you?
Many years ago when living in Japan, I studied karate with the greatest master of all time, Sensei Higaonna. I still get inspired to this day when I think about how even at 80 years of age, he continues to dedicate his life to his art for the sole purpose of ensuring that his teachings are not lost, but left for future generations.4. What advice would you give to your younger self?
Focus on doing what you love. Money is simply a reward, never a goal, and when you do what you love, you will achieve your best and success will follow.5. Your most recent ‘high-five’ moment?
Last week, one of our staff messaged me in the evening to say that the goals session that I ran during that day for our team inspired her to take action in her life. It made me feel like I made a difference.6. Favourite holiday destination?
Outside of Japan, I’m at my happiest when spending time in Dunsborough which is only a few hours’ drive south of Perth.7. Your big hairy audacious goal for 2019?
My focus this year is to expand TWD nationally and, in the process, double the size of our team to over 50 people.
