Six tips to help look after mental health

It’s important to take care of yourself so you can get the most from life. Here’s some practical tips to look after your mental health.

  1. TALK ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS
Talking about your feelings can help you stay in good mental health and enable you to cope through challenging experiences.2. STAY ACTIVE
Regular exercise has significant benefits for your mental health and wellbeing. Not only does it keep your brain and other organs healthy, it can also boost your self-esteem, improve your concentration and the quality of your sleep.

    3. EAT WELL
Your brain needs a mix of nutrients in order to stay healthy and function well. A diet that’s good for your physical health is also good for your mental health. As part of your Best You program you can access the help of a qualified dietician, simply contact Benestar to arrange your appointment.

    4. STAY CONNECTED
Staying connected with friends and family is an important part of your wellbeing. If it’s not possible to see them in person give them a quick call, or chat online. Keep the lines of communication open, even if you don’t feel like it.

    5. LEARN EFFECTIVE COPING SKILLS
If your workplace offers a resilience training program, get involved. Alternatively, it can be useful to access the range of self-help skills that are offered through the BeneHub Portal, such as reframing for resilience, managing change, and managing conflict.

    6. ASK FOR HELP
None of us are superhuman; we all get tired sometimes or overwhelmed by how we feel or when things don’t go to plan. If you realise you may be moving down the mental health continuum, ask for help. Your family or friends may be able to offer practical help or a listening ear and the team at Benestar are always here to help.
