AFA Professional Standards Working Group

In 2016, the AFA Board created a specialist working group to develop the AFA's policy positions on the incoming professional standards regime.

This Committee's functions are to:

  • monitor and review the developments of professional standards, adviser registration and education requirements as provided for by the framework set out by the Corporations Amendment (Professional Standards of Financial Advisers) Act 2016;
  • develop and test AFA policy positions with regard to these professional standards, adviser registration and education requirements;
  • develop guidelines for AFA members to comply with these professional standards, adviser registration and education requirements; and
  • make recommendations to the AFA Board about any relevant matters.

The four key areas the Working Group is currently working on in anticipation of the legislation passing hrough the Houses and the Standards Body being created are:

  • Education pathways
  • Registration exam
  • Supervised professional year
  • Continuing Professional Development

The members of the steering committee of the working group are:

  • Craig Meldrum - Infocus Wealth Management
