Membership Categories


AFA Membership Categories

AFA Membership is determined by the applicant's role and level of experience. Before joining, you will need to determine the membership category that best suits you and then click on the link at the bottom of the page to apply.


Practitioner Member:

An experienced adviser with more than three years practicing advice.

New Adviser Member:

An adviser who is new to the profession with less than three years practicing advice.

Affiliate Member:

Non-practicing members who meet the requirements for registration set by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).

Associate Member:

A financial services professional who is not a practicing financial adviser. e.g. CEOs and Licensee Management, Practice Development Managers, State Managers etc. 

Paraplanner Member:

A financial services professional who provides paraplanning support to financial advisers.


Support Member:

An employee of a practice, licensee, or financial services company who provides support to advisers or an advice business (e.g. client services).


Student Member:

A full-time student who aspires to a career in financial services and is looking for opportunities to become actively involved in the industry.
