Chief Executive Officer
The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) is seeking an accomplished and driven professional as its next CEO. As CEO you will be responsible for the management and operations of a national membership association representing financial advisers and finance advice. The CEO will champion the benefits of financial advice to the wider community and multiple stakeholders. Located in Sydney and responsible for strategic and operational business planning and performance, management of day-to-day operations, people and resources – you will work closely with the engaged and collaborative Board of Directors.
The CEO leads the AFA focus on supporting members as they navigate the challenges that the financial advice sector faces. Enhancing the value proposition for our members is of paramount importance.
You shall also be responsible for ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations while overseeing the sustainability of the national organisation. In this role a key responsibility is to lead the advocacy for the profession in a time of fast paced regulatory change. This will involve engagement with a wide range of external stakeholders, including Government and Regulators, and direct and collaborative engagement to inform and enhance the many policy settings affecting the sector. The successful candidate will require astute emotional intelligence as well as other established qualitative and quantitative skills.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced executive leader. To be successful in this role, you must have the presence, intellect and influence to progress this important work. Ideally, you will have experience in the financial services sector (or similar professional services) and/or a national member-based organisation. You will be a creative thinker with experience in organisational leadership and effective industry partner engagement. You shall have formal qualifications in business, leadership/management and/or related disciplines.
Leading a small professional team you will enhance the culture and performance of the team in achieving organisational goals. You will also be able to demonstrate strong business and financial management, policy development, strategic planning, corporate governance, risk management and a significant understanding of the issues facing the financial advice profession. Effective communication and media skills are also required as the CEO will often act as media spokesperson.
